Learning Objectives

  • The student will understand how hardwired and wireless universal emergency number, or 9-1-1,calls reach a public safety answering point (PSAP).
  • The student will understand what kinds of information are automatically included in a 9-1-1 call and how that information is used, including enhanced 9-1-1 (E911).
  • The student will understand the basic functions of computer-aided dispatch (CAD) systems.
  • The student will understand the need for and design of alternative, or routine universal service numbers.
  • The student will understand the basic functions of an intelligent transportation system and its relation to law enforcement.
