Writing Expectations

To help you focus on the presentation of your papers, here are some things I expect to see on your papers. You may want to double check your papers before submitting them for grades:

1.      Read and refer to the Critical Thinking Writing Guide: Anatomy of a Cohesive Essay, by Amy Mitchell.

2.      Have a cover sheet on each paper with your title, name, learner ID., and date

3.      Make sure you follow APA style for citations and references, even if it just from the text.

4.      Run a spell check on all papers

5.      Run a grammar check. See attached handout

6.      Read your paper out loud to hear obvious errors

7.      Insert page numbers in header or footer

8.      Indent new paragraphs 5 spaces

9.      Make sure your headings match the topics contained in them. For example: Under Conflict Resolution, the learner writes extensively about Commendations but doesnt address conflict resolution at all. Under Impact of Change the learner writes about Education, Promotions, Testing, HR issues, etc., but nothing about change.

10.  Make sure you address the issues posed in the learning agreement, whether by chapter, module, or whatever the main points are that are addressed.

11.  Stay away from rambling discourses on personal experiencesstay focus on the issues. You can certainly use personal examples, but keep them in context and related to key topics youre supposed to be addressing.

12.  Dont forget to include your bibliography or references/resources.

13.  Refer to APA style format for details

If you give me your paper ahead of your due dates for a review, Ill make recommendations before you submit for a final grade. RM
