Homeland Security and the New Threats of Global Terrorism: From Cold War to
Flaming-Hot War
Combining law enforcement,
state security and academic research, a trio of authors are exploring Homeland Security and Global Terrorism through the lenses
of multiple disciplines. The authors focus their perspectives on the history of terrorism through the modern day. In
addition to exploring the theoretical and historical underpinnings of the formation of terrorist states and stateless
terrorist groups, the authors provide real-world, practical perspectives on preventing, investigating and responding to terrorist
events.
Lieutenant Raymond E. Foster, LAPD (ret.), MPA, has 24 years of law enforcement experience.
In addition to "Police Technology (Prentice Hall, July 2004)," he has authored numerous articles on technology, law enforcement
and leadership. According to Lieutenant Foster, "The best defense against terrorism, disasters and crime is having well-trained,
well-led and highly motivated people. Our aim is to provide leaders, investigators and first responders with better
tools." Lieutenant Foster can be reached at raymond@hitechcj.com.
Major General Dror Itzhaki, Israeli Security Agency (ret), is a senior Israeli expert on security,
protection, operations and prevention of criminal and terror acts. As the former head of the Protective Security Division,
he was charged with the security of Israeli embassies, aviation, and maritime and governmental installations in Israel and
abroad. Since his retirement, he has conducted dozens of security risk assessments for countries and organizations
around the globe, including the United
States. According to Maj.
Gen. Itzhaki, "The concept is being a hunter and not a fisherman when relating to terrorism. It is being dynamic
and proactive in order to prevent terrorist acts by investigating all possible counter measures."
Dr. Reuven Paz, Ph.D., is an Israeli expert on militant and radical Islam and Islamist
movements. He has published dozens of articles in the field of Palestinian society and politics, and global radical
Islam. He served as the head of the Department of Research in the Israeli Security Service and the founder and director
of the Project for the Research of Islamist Movements (PRISM) in Herzliya, Israel
(www.e-prism.org). He has been an expert witness in many legal cases concerning terrorism in the United States. Dr. Reuven Paz can be reached at reupaz@netvision.net.il.
