Why Should You Be an NCIS Special Agent?

• NCIS special agent is one of the most challenging and fulfilling careers in law enforcement.
• NCIS special agents gain experience and responsibility in a matter of months.
• World travel and life abroadin locations such as Italy, Japan, England, Bahrain and aboard shipis part of the NCIS special agent experience.
• NCIS is an ideal place to pursue work in law enforcement specialties such as computer investigations... forensic science... threat assessment analysis... economic crimes... and electronic countermeasures.
• NCIS provides extensive training for special agents: from the 19-week NCIS Basic Agent Course held at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC)... to in-service training on subjects ranging from death investigations to crime scene processing, domestic security, unarmed self-defense, and critical incident stress debriefing... to multi-month programs on technical surveillance countermeasures, polygraph, procurement fraud, protective service... and year-long graduate programs in forensic science, foreign counterintelligence, and language studies.
• NCIS agents are armed federal law enforcement investigators.

Are You Qualified to be an NCIS Special Agent?

• You must be 21 to 37 years old.
• You must have an accredited baccalaureate degree.
• You must have vision correctable to 20/20 with normal color vision.
• You must be a U.S.-born or naturalized U.S. citizen.
• You must pass a background suitability screening.

Applicants are not required to enlist in the Navy or Marine Corps... have preexisting military or law enforcement experience, such experience is often desireable... or have any particular Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs). In addition to the special agent position, NCIS offers a broad range of Professional and Support Careers.

How to Apply

The application process for an NCIS special agent is initiated by submitting a form OF612 (which can be obtained from the Office of Personnel Management or a resume, along with an NCIS Agent Application Form (Word file) and Applicant Background Survey (Word file), directly to the agency.
